West Valley Checks Off EM Priority With Demolition Waste Disposal Milestone 

EM Update, September 3, 2024 —

The U.S. Department of Energy Office of Environmental Management (EM) and its cleanup contractor at the West Valley Demonstration Project recently notched an annual cleanup priority ahead of schedule for a second consecutive year, this time safely shipping more than 40 million pounds — equivalent to 20,000 tons — of debris from the demolition of the Main Plant Process Building since launching the project in fall 2022. 

Crews with CH2M HILL BWXT West Valley (CHBWV) have packaged and shipped by rail more than 1,000 waste containers from the project for safe disposal offsite. They loaded each container with about 40,000 pounds of debris.
