WVDP conducts Safety Day

Springfield Journal, August 15, 2024 —

The Department of Energy Office of Environmental Management and CH2M HILL BWXT West Valley, its cleanup contractor at the West Valley Demonstration Project, recently conducted their annual Safety Day. This year’s event included heavy equipment demonstrations, safety education activities, team-building activities and information stations on health and nutrition. CHBWV uses Safety Day to take some time to refresh employees on various safety topics and reinforce their strong safety culture.

The site also used this event to congratulate employees for their efforts in further improving safety at the site. Last year, WVDP employees received a Department of Energy Voluntary Protection Program Star of Excellence plaque for exceeding minimum safety rates and having an overall robust safety program. The site also received their recertification as a VPP Site. In addition to VPP recertification, WVDP employees celebrated working over 800,000 work hours without a lost time accident.

Cheryl Wozniak, CHBWV Industrial Safety Manager, coordinated the event for all employees and also congratulated them for their VPP and safe work achievements.
