Olean Times Herald -Ribbon cutting held for third solar farm in Olean, 17-acre Homeridae

July 18, 2019 –  The city’s third solar farm was celebrated with a ribbon cutting Wednesday morning at Homeridae, a 17-acre former brownfield between Homer Street and Interstate 86. 

The site is generating enough electricity to supply 652 typical New York homes with power for a year and helping Olean taxpayers with about $100,000 in annual energy credits, Olean Mayor Bill Aiello said before cutting the ribbon in front of dozens of invited guests.  Link to article

Springville Journal – Town discusses possible funding opportunity for projects

DOE EM Update – West Valley Continues Progress in Knocking Down Support Buildings

July 9, 2019 –  EM crews recently demolished a former utility building at the West Valley Demonstration Project (WVDP), bringing the total number of structures removed at the site to 63. 

“The completion of this work changes the landscape and footprint of the WVDP site, and is a reminder of the ongoing progress here,” EM WVDP Director Bryan Bower said. 

Scott Anderson, president of CH2M HILL BWXT West Valley (CHBWV), EM’s cleanup contractor at the site, said his employees used their combined knowledge and lessons learned to safely complete this work. Link to Update

DOE EM Update – West Valley Team Creates Conveyor, Furthering Safety for Asbestos Removal

July 2, 2019 – EM deactivation and decommissioning (D&D) crew members used ingenuity and lessons learned to develop a conveyor system to safely remove material containing asbestos from inside a building at the West Valley Demonstration Project. 

Workers used the conveyor system to get rid of about 56,000 pounds of plaster containing asbestos material from the walls of a control room on the fourth floor of the Main Plant Process Building. They are clearing away asbestos material to prepare the structure for demolition. Link to article

Springville Times – West Valley Citizen Task Force to Meet July 24

June 28, 2019 –  The West Valley Citizen Task Force will not meet in June. 

The July 24 meeting will go forward as scheduled and the agenda for that meeting will be available in mid-July. Link to article
