EM Update – West Valley Advances Facility Deactivation by Relocating Containers for Disposal

May 14, 2019 –  EM and its cleanup contractor at the West Valley Demonstration Project (WVDP) Site gained ground in the deactivation of a Cold War facility after recently relocating two 69,000-pound containers for eventual offsite disposal. 

Workers with CH2M HILL BWXT West Valley (CHBWV) are deactivating the Fuel Receiving and Storage facility for future demolition. The work includes removing asbestos-containing material from 

the facility, which was used to receive and store spent nuclear fuel during fuel reprocessing operations from 1966 to 1972. Link to Update

EM- Update – EM Awards WVDP Contractor $346,000 of Available Fee for Six-Month Period

May 14, 2019 –  EM’s West Valley Demonstration Project (WVDP) Site recently awarded cleanup contractor CH2M HILL BWXT West Valley (CHBWV) nearly $346,000, or 75 percent, of the available fee for its performance in the first half of the evaluation period of fiscal 2019. Link to Update

Ellicottville Times – WVDP presents $80,000 to area organizations for site support

May 8, 2019 – Representatives from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) and CH2M HILL BWXT West Valley, LLC (CHBWV) presented checks 

April 23 to Springville Bertrand Chaffee Hospital, Mercy Flight and the West Valley Fire District 1 on behalf of the West Valley Demonstration Project (WVDP). Link to Article

Springville Journal – West Valley receives blue ribbon at Waste Management Symposia

May 2, 2019 – CH2MHill BWXT West Valley, the Department of Energy Office of Environmental Management’s West Valley Demonstration Project cleanup contractor, received a blue ribbon for its professional poster session on Open-Air Demolition Air Monitoring at this year’s Waste Management Symposia. EM Update – EM Sites Clean Up Trash, Focus on Sustainability for Earth Day

April 30, 2019 – At the West Valley Demonstration Project in New York state, EM and cleanup contractor CH2M HILL BWXT West Valley hosted the Seneca Nation of Indians’ annual Earth Day event that pays tribute to the Cattaraugus Creek. 

Participants attended a sunrise ceremony before kicking off the “Run, Walk and Paddle” event. Link to Update
