EM Update – WVDP Presents Checks to Emergency Services Organizations for Site Support

April 30, 2019 –  Representatives from EM, cleanup contractor CH2MHILL BWXT West Valley (CHBWV), and the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) recently presented checks to Bertrand Chaffee Hospital, Mercy Flight, and the West Valley Fire District 1 on behalf of the West Valley Demonstration Project (WVDP).  Link to Update

Springville Journal – WVDP successfully demolishes former laundry facility

April 23, 2019 –  EM and its cleanup contractor CH2M HILL BWXT West Valley, LLC recently completed the demolition of the former laundry facility at the West Valley Demonstration Project. This is the third of seven ancillary support structures to be demolished under the current contract. Laundry operations stopped in 2012 when it was outsourced to a private contractor as a cost-savings measure. Link to article

Olean Times Herald – Native Offerings Farm named Cattaraugus County farmer of the year

April 11, 2019 –

 A full house of 360 farmers and their neighbors met at the West Valley Fire Hall Wednesday night to honor Cattaraugus County farmers at the eighth annual Farmer-Neighbor Dinner.

The event brought area farmers and their non-farming neighbors — both local and from surrounding areas — together to reflect on the previous year’s achievements and look forward to the future of the local agricultural industry. 

Although event speaker Chris Baker, Director of Cattaraugus County Department of Emergency Services, was unable to attend the event due to unforeseen travel issues, event organizer Crystal Abers spoke. Link to article

Springville Journal – Vitrification demolition, waste disposition completed at WVDP

April 1, 2019 –  Work at the West Valley Demonstration Project continues to move forward, with crews recently completing another accomplishment in its decommissioning. CH2M HILL BWXT West Valley, LLC crews at the WVDP completed the disposition of waste from the vitrification building and the installation of a weather protective cover to signify the end of physical work with the vitrification building.  Link to article
