EM Update – Secretary Granholm Honors EM Cost Estimating Office With Appreciation Award

February 1, 2022 – An EM team was recently honored with the Secretary of Energy’s Appreciation Award for its professional expertise and pursuit of project management excellence.

The award recognizes the Environmental Management Consolidated Business Center’s (EMCBC) Office of Cost Estimating, which serves as DOE’s Cost Estimating Center of Excellence, for exceptional support to DOE and its Office of Project Management by providing sound cost estimating, schedule analysis and risk assessment support for multiple capital asset project reviews. Buffalo Business First – Luke Marchiori pouring his energy into WNY blockchain industry

January 31, 2022 – Blockchain projects are popping up with increasing frequency in Western New York, and one local energy executive is on the ground floor of that transition.

Luke Marchiori, executive vice president of Williamsville-based EnergyMark, has been personally interested in blockchain for a few years.

… Marchiori’s own firm – owned by his father, Gary Marchiori – has been peeking into the future of
renewable energy for several years now. EnergyMark co-developed a community solar project on 54 acres of underutilized land on the West Valley Nuclear Demonstration Project, and actively seeks to partner with other solar projects to help market the energy credits they create. Link to article

Nuclear Newswire- Last remaining support building at West Valley’s Main Plant set to come down

December 10, 2021 – The Department of Energy’s Office of Environmental Management (EM) is set to complete the 69th building demolition at the West Valley Demonstration Project early next year, when crews finish knocking down the last structure standing that supported operations at the former Main Plant Process Building.

Located in western New York, the West Valley Demonstration Project is the site of a former commercial spent nuclear fuel reprocessing plant operated by Nuclear Fuel Services. In 1980, Congress directed the DOE to lead in the solidification and removal of the high‐level radioactive waste remaining at the site and to decommission the facilities used in the process. Springville Journal -West Valley to complete teardown of seventh main plant support facility

January 20, 2022 – Crews are set to complete the 69th building demolition at the West Valley Demonstration Project early this year when they finish knocking down the seventh structure standing that supported operations at the former main plant process building.

Workers recently began the demolition of the load‐in facility, the last ancillary support structure that surrounds the main plant process building. The 4,500 square foot building has been used for several purposes over the years and is no longer needed for current or future cleanup activities. To date, the following ancillary support structures have been removed from the site’s footprint: contact size‐reduction facility, manipulator repair shop, main plant office building, utility room building, utility room extension and laundry facility. ECA Update -New EM site 101 videos featured on ECA webpage capture history, cleanup mission status

January 19, 2022 – The Department of Energy Office of Environmental Management (DOE‐EM) recently released new five‐minute “site 101” videos. The videos provide a brief history and the current cleanup mission status at EM’s active cleanup sites, and may be found on ECA’s Site Profiles webpage [http://www.energyca.org/site‐profiles].
