Springville/Ellicottville Pennysaver & News – West Valley repurposes facility to support main plant demolition

October 2, 2021 – The West Valley Demonstration Project (WVDP) is altering a former storage facility for use in processing waste during the demolition of the Main Plant Process Building.

“The modifications to this facility are a step towards the future demolition of the Main Plant Process Building,” EM WVDP Director Bryan Bower said. “This work also saves taxpayers money by using this former storage facility for a different purpose and operation. The WVDP team is doing an excellent job in planning and executing this work.” Link to article

Springville Journal – Ashford board adopts 2022 preliminary budget

September 23, 2021 – The Ashford Town Board, at its Sept. 15 meeting, adopted the 2022 tentative budget as the 2022 preliminary budget. Budget Officer William King presented the tentative budget to the board members and answered questions before being adopted as preliminary.

Total appropriations for the 2022 budget are $2,053,100, an increase from the 2021 budget of $1,966,060. The tax levy for the 2022 budget would be $453,360, a $8,000 increase from last year. But while the tax levy is increasing, King said residents should likely only see a slight increase. Link to article

Springville Journal – West Valley Demonstration Project partners with Sheriff’s Office for security training

September 30, 2021 – The West Valley Demonstration Project recently conducted a graduation ceremony for three security police officers who completed a seven‐week security training course through a first‐time partnership with the local sheriff’s office.

The officers, Travis Radomski, Gregory Jacobs and Tage Soderlund, would normally take the course at DOE’s National Training Center in Albuquerque, N.M. However, there was no space available for them at the center’s basic security police officer training course this year due to a large number of new recruits from across the DOE complex requiring training.
