On February 1, 2002, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission released a Final Policy Statement for decommissioning criteria for the West Valley Demonstration Project. In the Policy Statement the Commission prescribes the NRC License Termination Rule (10 CFR part 20, subpart E) as the criteria for decommissioning. The statement also addresses the issuance of criteria for “incidental waste.”
The West Valley Citizen Task Force, in comments to a draft of the statement and in correspondence following the issuance the Final Policy Statement, has expressed disagreements with the NRC over the Final Policy Statement.
